The Heart of November

Chilly days, the smell of Fall in the air.  Talking about upcoming Holidays, family and all that we have to be Thankful for!  Well I for one am so Thankful that each of you entrusted me with your children this schoolyear!  We have so much fun learning and playing together.  Each one is so unique and special, and I actually miss them when they aren't here!  This year is the fulfillment of a dream for me - to share something that I love with children - nature, art, music, books, and making learning something fun!

My daughter introduced me to a new app that I am going to start using to create little video clips of our year together.  Here was my practice one....

Have a great Fall Break!

Week of F and Celebrating Fall!

What a fun few weeks full of fun fruit faces, funky flowers and preparing for Halloween!  Fall festivities are definitely some of my favorite and this year was no exception.  Here are some pictures of the fun we had together at Roots...
Our MF class celebrated Tommy's birthday with a yummy Halloween themed snack!

We also continued to rake leaves and enjoy the mild Fall temperatures while we can!  Thanks to Reuben's mom we now have a set of stone dominoes for our playground space as well!

We have been working on the song Five Little Pumpkins... In which we dress up and act out the parts of each pumpkin...  Ask your child to sing it for you!  5 little pumpkins sitting on a gate.  The first one said oh my it's getting late.  The second one said there are witches in the air.  The third one said oh we don't care.  The fourth one said let's run and run and run! The fifth one said isn't Halloween fun?  Oooooooohhhh. Went the wind and out went the light and the 5 little pumpkins rolled out of sight.....   Even Ms. Becci got in on the fun!

That's all for now!  Next up pumpkin pounding, parties and the letter G.

Week of 'E'

This week we learned about leaves and the letter Ee.  Mrs Frey was on vacation this week so Ms Shannon and her daughter Addy got to come and spend the week learning with us!  We had soooo much fun with them and look forward to visiting with them again soon!

We found out the elephant starts with E and that they can use their trunks for a lot more than sniffing out peanuts!  Also we did a couple of "Experiments" - one with cornstarch and sand and one with an Egg!  We also talked about eggs... The different types of eggs, shapes, sizes, who lays them and why they are the color they are...

Some pictures of our week follow. With descriptions of our experiments in case you want to try them at home!

One if our experiments was a type if goop.  You mix sand and cornstarch together and then slowly add water until it is mixed well.  When you press mixture slowly your finger will sink, but poking it fast it will be hard.  Also you can pick it up and squeeze it so that it is solid but then it will turn into liquid and run out of your fingers.

Experiments....
Place a raw egg ( shell intact) in a cup full of white vinegar.  Allow it to soak for several days and observe as the vinegar dissolves the eggshell but leaves the inner membrane intact.

Yoga...

Smoothies!!!

We love finding things in the backyard to investigate... This slug just happened to be in our leaf pile on Thursday so we were able to take an extra close look at him... Look at his slime trail. How Awesome!!!!!
